Celebrations Report By Navid

In room 22 we have been learning about different celebrations and festivals celebrated all over the world. Navid has written a report about Easter.

What is the true meaning of Easter?

What is Easter about?

Easter is what most people think is a holiday. On Easter we have chocolate eggs, the Easter bunny and Easter egg hunts. But why? In the following paragraphs I will inform you what the true meaning of Easter is.

Two thousand years ago Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is God's son, was hung on a cross and crucified in Golgotha. This is Good Friday. On Sunday (Easter Sunday) Christ was resurrected from the dead. The date of Easter changes each year because he was crucified on the Sunday after the Jewish celebration passover which is based on the lunar calendar. This is the most important christian celebration celebrated around the world. It is important because it shows Jesus is who he says to be, came to earth to save us and shows the triumph of good over evil.
We celebrate Easter with Easter eggs, Easter egg hunts and the Easter bunny. This is a holiday so many families spend time together, eat delicious food and sometimes even light fireworks! Eggs are a symbol of new life like when Christ was resurrected and given new life. Easter lasts fifty days until the festival of Pentecost, although most people think Easter is three days long (Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday).

Did you Know Americans spend one point nine billion dollars on chocolate eggs for Easter! Also that Easter is the second largest candy holiday with Halloween being the first. Lastly eggs have been seen as an ancient sign of fertility and new life.

In my opinion you don't have to be Christian if you want to celebrate Easter or any other celebration. I am not Christian but I still do celebrate Easter and Christmas.
